Discovering Islands

Client: Cumbrae Initiative

Ocean gave one of its best ever displays of integrated communications when it brought to life a community group's idea of a Cumbrae Sensory Trail - a marked route around the island’s 11 mile coastline which would offer visitors the chance to experience a special sensory treat.

The design team set off first on the challenge by creating a strong brand identity for the Trail, sensory point markers in the shape of the island with a 'touch for luck' polished ball at the top, promotional material incorporating a Trail map and post cards. Our communications people researched and wrote the script for an audio recording which would guide visitors around the Trail. And in multimedia, an interactive website was developed, which included podcasts of the audio recording.

Keeping it all plain sailing for the client, we managed all liaison with external suppliers including printers, a specialist engineering company who manufactured and installed the markers and Westsound radio studios, where the script was transformed into a 12 minute audio guide with the help of Scottish broadcaster and former Beechgrove Garden presenter Bill Torrance.
